Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori has a strong and supportive team of committed advocates for the revitalisation of te reo Māori. We support each other in our work and in improving our own use of te reo Māori. It's a small workplace with a family-friendly whānau culture. Our work will support the Government's Māori Language Strategy, Maihi Karauna, to be issued under the new Māori Language Act 2016.

The Senior Evaluation Advisor will support the regeneration of te reo Māori through the evaluation of the effectiveness of programmes and informing future direction and plans.

In this role you will set up and run the framework for evaluation activities relating to Te Maihi Karauna and provide input into strategy documents. Working with the Director, Policy & Development, as well as the Partnerships & Promotions team, you will lead monitoring and evaluation projects, which will include the setup of the project infrastructure and running it. You will liaise with key stakeholders in other Government agencies, research institutions and evaluations associations and build cooperative relationships with these stakeholders at an appropriate level.

The successful applicant will be working closely with an open and warm team, and will work to lift the internal capacity of the team whilst continuing to mentor and develop them.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in research, social sciences, statistics, economics, or a related field;
  • Five years' experience in planning process, performance management and undertaking evaluations;
  • Proven experience in building strong business relationships with staff and Government agencies;
  • Experience in kaupapa Māori research and evaluation, along with experience in survey design;
  • Excellent analytical skills, and a sound knowledge of statistics and research methodology;
  • A sound understanding of key issues impacting on te reo Māori language development and revitalisation;
  • Strong communication, planning, and project management skills;
  • A high (Level 4) proficiency in te reo Māori; and
  • Membership with a professional evaluation associations, such as ANZEA.

You should have a good level of knowledge in the Microsoft Office suite - particularly with Microsoft Excel - and, ideally, knowledge of Microsoft Project.
